About Me

Dr. Julie Waumsley

CPsychol, DipCouns, MNCS Snr Accred, PGCHE, FHEA, AFBPs

I am a Senior Accredited Therapist with the National Counselling Society and am registered with the Professional Standards Authority. I have worked as a therapist with clients who have faced many and varied personal difficulties (see areas of work) for over twenty years. As a private practitioner, I work with clients on a one-to-one basis in a gentle, respectful, and professional manner. I pride myself in always striving to behave in a way that is congruent with my integrity, offering individuals the opportunity to explore any difficulties they might be experiencing. The work at Atlantic Counselling Cornwall allows for our work together to unfold at a pace that is suitable for the individual, in an empathetic, warm and non-judgemental way.

In addition, I have worked with people who want to better manage their eating and increase their level of daily activity but find it difficult to do so, and with elite athletes, including professional footballers, national and international athletes within various sports. I began my professional life as a Physical Training Instructor in the Army, and so have seen human behaviour and performance under the most extreme of conditions. I achieved a First-Class Honours Degree in Social Psychology at the University of Kent and immediately followed this with a PhD in Social Psychology. I have trained many counsellors to degree and Masters level. I also run CPD courses for qualified counsellors.
